During the annual awards ceremony of the Georgia Downtown Conference, the Georgia Downtown Association recognized the city of Griffin with an Award of Excellence in the Best Placemaking Project category for The Chappell Street Community Green Space.

The Chappell Street Community Green Space Project transformed an empty side lot between Griffin Fire-Rescue Station #1 and the Kevin Jordan Public Safety Complex into a gathering spot for the community.

“By exploring unique placemaking ideas, the Art Beautification Committee designed a space that brought value to the neighborhood, focused on building meaningful relationships with the community, and provided a safe place for children and families to enjoy,” according to a statement released by the city.
